You already said it. Stop retyping it.

The best thoughts arrive while you're walking, driving, or holding groceries — so you record a voice memo. And there it dies: seventeen untitled recordings you'll never replay, because replaying is slower than the thought was worth.

The memo was never the point. The note was — and the two to-dos buried in it.

• Transcribes verbatim, in your language — English, Russian, German, mixed mid-sentence; the words come back as you said them. Where it genuinely can't hear, it writes [inaudible] instead of inventing something plausible.
• Keeps one tidy notes file — a dated entry per memo in My Documents, transcript plus any action items pulled out as checkboxes. Its window shows recent notes and what's still unchecked.
• Three ways to talk to it: hit the 🎤 in any chat and dictate (the words land in the box for you to review — nothing sends until you press Enter); upload voice memos from your phone; or, as it rolls out, forward a memo to your computer's own email address and it's processed before you switch apps.
• Never does the same memo twice — it keeps its own ledger of what it has processed.

You describe the job in plain words. The Terminal writes the app and puts an icon on your desktop.

A transcript is the model's hearing, not a recording of truth. Names and numbers occasionally come out bent (“Andrei” can land as “Andre”) — which is exactly why dictation puts words in the box for you to check instead of sending them, and why the notes keep the verbatim transcript rather than a paraphrase.

Dictation is for thoughts, not lectures — the mic button records up to a minute. Longer thinking belongs in a voice-memo file; those can run much longer.

Recordings go to an AI provider to be transcribed, and that provider may retain them. Don't dictate anything you'd call confidential — the privacy page is blunt about this.
